About Amanda Jane Graham

Amanda Jane Graham was born in Scotland but has lived most of her life in Ireland. Her artworks emanate from the sociological gaze. The practice is autobiographical and autoethnographic; she narrates her story through a reflexive practice by delving into personal history and excavating memories, experiences, and emotions, some of which are challenging but rigorously scrutinised and almost always, humour emerges. Graham articulates the personal audit through references to humour in popular culture.

In 2019, Graham completed an MLitt in interdisciplinary research in the Department of Sociology at Maynooth University. Since leaving the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, with a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2011, Graham has had seventeen solo and twenty-seven national and international group shows. Her most recent solo exhibitions include 'The Coiffured’ at the Irish Architectural Archive, 'Stage Left' at The Dock Arts Centre, Carrick-on-Shannon, and 'A Tribute To The Irish Community Butte Montana 1916-1919' at RHA Dublin.

She receives numerous awards and commissions. Her research and exhibition, The Coiffured, was highly commended in the Business to Arts Best Creativity in the Workplace Awards, and she was a shortlisted artist for the Sir John Soane Museum Drawing Office Residency. Her research and exhibition, The Coiffured, was awarded the Creative Ireland Creative Communities Economic Action Fund, and she received the Platform 31 Bursary. She was a recipient of the Arts Council of Ireland Awards and the Spark and Small Spark Residency Awards.
